As a Christian, should I drink as long as I don't get drunk?.

Hello beautiful people :)

Its been a while since I've been on here.
Sorry about that, I've been a little busy.

Hope you've all been good children?
And I hope you're enjoying your Easter break?
The holidays have just begun and I'm looking forward to having funPS. My idea of fun is revision #geekymoments

Okay, back to the question that heads this post:
'As a Christian, should I drink as long as I don't get drunk?'

I've felt the need to put this up for some weeks now. I prayed and kept thinking about it; I believe I received conviction and I finally created time to type it up.

So please let your hearts be receptive to all I have to say, it will do you all alot of good.

I've reached that age were drinking becomes a normal thing to do. Nowadays, I hear tales about drinking and hangovers associated with most teenage parties.
I don't really go to parties so I've never been in a position where I've been pressured to drink. But a while back, when people asked me if I'd drink at parties when I get to uni, I'd often reply saying,
'Yes, anything can happen but I will not get drunk'.

I've always said that because I have always been aware of Ephesians 5:18 which says, 'Do not be drunk with wine, which will ruin you, but be filled with the Spirit'. I translated this as you can drink as long as you don't get drunk for so long now but much understanding, searching and exposure to certain things has made me realize that this isn't necessarily true. Infact, let me just give it to you straight:                                  AS A CHRISTIAN, YOU SHOULD NOT DRINK, let alone GET DRUNK!!

So now, if someone was to ask me that question again, I'd probably say: 'I have no intentions of drinking, but hopefully God will give me the strength to resist every urge to drink'

Some scriptures that talk about drinking:
Ephesians 5:18 'Do not be drunk with wine, which will ruin you, but be filled with the Spirit.' The bible clearly says it here that being drunk with wine WILL ruin you. Another version says it will destroy you.

Therefore, I see no reason why you should take pleasure in doing something that WILL destroy you except if you obviously don't love yourself.

Clearly, God wants you to be filled with the Spirit instead of being drunk. Therefore, in my own opinion, alcoholism can be classed as a Spirit. As a christian, you should be aware that you cannot serve two masters, you're either HERE or THERE / FOR or AGAINST.
You cannot be equally filled with alcohol and filled with the Holy Spirit at the same time. That will NEVER work.

Let's look at Proverbs 31:4-6
'Kings and leaders should not get drunk or even want to drink. Drinking makes you forget your responsibilities, and you mistreat the poor. Beer and wine are only for the dying or for those who have lost hope. Let them drink and forget how poor and miserable they are.'

Proverbs 20:1 also says, 'It isn't smart to get drunk! Drinking makes a fool of you and leads to fights.'

Proverbs 23:31-35
Don't let wine tempt you, even though it is rich red, though it sparkles in the cup, and it goes down smoothly. The next morning you will feel as if you had been bitten by a poisonous snake. 33 Weird sights will appear before your eyes, and you will not be able to think or speak clearly. 34 You will feel as if you were out on the ocean, seasick, swinging high up in the rigging of a tossing ship. 35 “I must have been hit,” you will say; “I must have been beaten up, but I don't remember it. Why can't I wake up? I need another drink.”

I find it amazing how the bible holds the answers to all questions and talks about everything that relates to us.                                                       Reading Proverbs 23:31-35 completely shocked me because this is what happens with people that get drunk. They feel that drinking gives them some sort of boldness and strength yet don't realize that after getting drunk, they loose the little strength they had.
Also, like Proverbs 20:1 says, drinking definitely makes a fool of you because when people who had been  drunk at a party hear about the silly things they did, of course they feel embarrassed. They feel like they have made a fool of themselves. Yet, when they attend another party, they do the same thing!!

Proverbs 23:19-21, 'Listen, my child, and be wise! Keep your mind straight on the path. Don't hang out with those who get drunk on wine or those who eat too much, because drunks and gluttons shall become poor and drowsiness clothes them in rags'.

Another part of the bible encourages us to do things in moderation. No doubt that if you drink excessively, it will definitely cause trouble.
Remember that cancer, high blood pressure, depression, nerve damage or cirrhosis are real health conditions that all exist and are related to chronic heavy drinking.

Sadly, these health conditions are just a tip of the iceberg.

Remember drinking is a temptation but God has given you all the strength to overcome any temptation that comes your way. So I know you can do it.

Okay, now you may say but when I drink, I only drink a little, just a sip. I am not going to get drunk with just a sip!!! But please don't deceive yourselves.

It is not just a little harmless sip because a little harmless sip today will definitely become an uncontrollable gush tomorrow.
One sip leads to another and from there on an addiction. You might not think that now but watch this space.

I got the image below from a BBC news article and it describes how alcohol affects the different parts of the body.
Here, take a look ...
1. Absorption of information restricted; memory impaired; inhibitions lowered
2. Tunnel vision; difficulty in distinguishing light intensity
3. Central nervous system impaired; intestinal irritation can lead to ulcers; high levels can lead to coma or death
4. Change in fat metabolism, eventually leading to scarring of the liver
5. Sexual performance inhibited, possibly leading to impotence
6. Co-ordination and motor skills impaired; increased swaying

I could seriously write more and I wish I could give a much more detailed explanation but I want to leave you all with a few things:

As a Christian, indulging in alcohol only destroys you.

If you are already struggling with your flesh then drinking alcohol just means putting yourself in more bondage.

Finally, to remain under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, you need to cut off completely from anything that influences you negatively.

God bless you all and thanks for making out time to read this.

Feel  free to share any questions or concerns you may have.

Love always, x

Is it a NEED or just a WANT?

Recently, I found myself saying things like:
''I need a cream blouse''
''I need a clutch bag''
''I need a pair of wedges''

After saying all these and much more, the next thing I asked myself was,
'Ore, do you really need a pair of wedges or do you just want a pair?'

Notice the two words I have underlined above: need and want.

Is there really a difference between these two words?
Are they synonyms so therefore can they be used interchangeably?

NO! NO!! NO!!!
There is a BIG difference and they CANNOT be used interchangeably.

Okay then you probably ask, what is a need?
A need is a necessity.
A necessity is something that is indispensable - crucial, of paramount importance and is incapable of being neglected.

And what is a want?
A want is a feel, a desire, a wish or a craving for something.

So, I don't need a clutch bag or a pair of wedges, neither do I need a cream blouse. I only wish for/desire them.

Therefore using the words need or want interchangeably becomes a misconception of our priorities.

A need that is common to us all is: food, water and shelter.
These are often said to be the basic necessities of life.
After this, the remaining things/people in your need list become personal to you.

So remember, if you can live without it then you probably don't need it.
You only want it.

Right about now, I will say shikena but you won't understand unless you're fully Nigerian.                      ( I mean flesh and blood )

But still, SHIKENA!! :)

Till next time lovelies x

Opportunity comes once in a lifetime.

So, I had to deliver a one minute speech at school about a topic of my choice in front of my year group.

Talk about NERVE-WRACKING!

But I did it!!

People that know me know that I can be very shy, laid back and quiet.
This was a real challenge for me and I'm happy I went for it.

No regrets!!

Right, let me go straight to my point.
I just want to share with you the speech I delivered as it's something I believe we all need to hear.

It's about opportunities.
Here it goes . . .

'LOOK if you had one shot or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted - just one moment.
Would you capture it, or would you let it slip?
Free education is one opportunity we all have in common.
You might not think it's an opportunity but think about people in other countries  who aren't as privileged as you.
They aren't complaining, yet with the little chance they have, they work hard and still make something out of themselves.

So what about us?
What excuses do we have? We have all our opportunities set in front of us on a platter of gold.
Yet it baffles me how we sometimes think it's 'ok' to let them slip!

My advice to you all will be to capture the opportunity the school, government or any body else offers you because you never know where it may lead.
The only thing stopping YOU from making the most out of your opportunities is YOURSELF.
So DON'T limit yourself; as they say, opportunity comes once in a lifetime.

Before I take my seat, I've got one thing to say which I hope you take away from this speech.
So here it goes ...
You only get one shot so make it count because you may never get this moment again.'

Giving speeches might not be your cup of tea.
But whatever it is, PUSH YOURSELF.
Don't let your weakness be a barrier.

Challenge yourself and trust me, you'll be glad you did.

NOW or NEVER.

Just wanted to share something I read a while back with you.

It's probably something you've heard enough times.

It's all about TIMING.
Timing! Timing!! Timing!!!

I happened to come across something during one of my devotionals which said 'to get the best out of life, you must operate daily with a sense of time'.

Timing is extremely important; it is either NOW or NEVER; not LATER but NOW.

There is a time for everything, and everything on Earth has its special season according to Ecclesiastes 3:1 in the bible

Procrastination is something we've all done at one point.
I still do it sometimes.
But it's not safe, it only brings anxiety, uneasiness and unsteadiness.
I mean there is nothing stopping you from getting your work over and done with right NOW!

The final part of my devotional said, 'every second or minute you waste today will become wasted years tomorrow'.

I remember when I was young, my mummy used to say, 'tick says the clock tick tick, what you have to do, do quick'. So ladies and gents, try to use your time effectively, you can achieve something that will change your destiny for the best in such a small space of time.

This is something I need to work on aswell.

Okay, you can rush off to finish your work NOW!
Thanks for spending a few seconds to read this post.

Till next time :]

Looking past the outward appearance.

There's no doubt that everyone has those days were they don't look 10/10.
Maybe it's your hair, eyebrows, shoes, make-up or your clothes are just not the latest fashion item.

There will always be days like those but don't dwell on them; don't let them define your beauty because the real beauty lies within you.

The fact that you don't have the best jewellery on doesn't make you less attractive than the girl next door.

I'm not saying you shouldn't look good, by all means try to look presentable but remember that even the bible tells us in 1 Peter 3:3-4 that 'It is not fancy hair, gold jewellery or fine clothes that should make you beautiful. No, your beauty should come from within you - the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which is of the greatest value in God's sight'.

I just love that scripture, it just about sums everything up in simple words!!

So what is the moral of the story?
Learn to look past your outward appearance by developing the beauty within. Your inner beauty could be developed by doing the simplest things like giving others a helping hand.

Remember that putting on a smile can also go a very long way; as the popular saying goes, 'a smile is the best make-up you could put on'

Peace, love and chicken grease x
